“The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what’s true.”—Carl Sagan (via fussyfella)
“We must find out what words are and how they function.
They become images when written down, but images of words repeated in the mind and not of the image of the thing itself.”—Billy Burroughs (via thinksquad)
Sheared from the line and tumbled adrift into the sleeping seas of the primordial. Is it freedom I ask myself as I drown without sound, or simply a new slavery born from caste-less wandering? I cry into the black ocean, “I am not,” but these declarations are empty lies when I have such urgent need to fill my pockets with shiny stones and fire.
I did not bring a lot with me to this country. Especially given the fact that I do not like stuff, in general.
I did bring some symbols with me. Parts of me & others that remind me who I am when I temporarily forget.
I had not seen or touched those things for over 7 years. Yet lately I find myself looking for meaning and so I keep them close.
I wish I knew better why I find myself in silence & among memories & tokens of somewhere far away from here.
I have not forgotten who I am. But I think I want someone else to know too.
For years I have hidden the fact that faced with death my only regret was that no one will ever know that the smell of rain brings me peace, that although it’s not my favorite color, blue is a word I like in every language, that I read the first line of every book I touch, & that I write to survive…
And I hold these objects as I realize that I’ll take no token from this place. No object of any kind. All I leave with is a perfect empty space. A territory in my mind that will probably forever make me smile & sometimes make me cry.
Do you think that piece of paper plays any role or has any other value than the symbolic one we give it?
Think about it. Human Rights. As in inalienable, basic, common sense and obvious declaration of what humans should be.
If it is an international declaration, why is it that those rights change from country to country? Why is it that the difference is so BLATANT?
While I read this trend of phrases like “first world problems” as a punch line, I jump to the drought and famine in Africa that is killing slowly 11 million of us.
First world problems?
I did not know there were many worlds in this planet. But there are, aren’t there?
There is the world of the over-fed. over-stuffed, over-entitled world. There is the wanna be over-fed, wanna be over-stuffed, wanna be over-entitled world. And there there is the we-do-not-care world. Forgotten. Invisible. An ad on TV for poor children.
Just the fact that we let this categories take place is ridiculous. And by the way have you ever noticed that there is no such thing as 2nd world countries? No, there is 1st world countries, and then there is 3rd world countries. 2nd? well, wanna be countries, sucking up to the 1st ones, desperately trying to become 1st, not for the benefit of their people, but for the privileges it presents to the owners.
2nd world countries? Countries is development they call it.
Hm. Rip off your population, drive them to debt and voluntary servitude, stripped them of much of their rights and liberties and maybe, just maybe you could be one step closer of becoming the 1st world where you would have no fear of ever loosing grip.
There is no such thing as 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 5th. Fuck that.
No, seriously. Fuck that.
Those are not your terms. You are not part of that game. You are the little piece they move around. You perceive nothing of the benefits, there is no common well being for you. There has never been. Why should you adopt their slang?
Erase it from your brain, from your soul.
11 million of us are dying. OF US. OF YOU.
And that is only one event in your world.
There are million of people displaced in refugee camps all over your planet because of the actions of so-called 1st world countries.
Let me ask you, DO YOU AGREE?
Wait. another question, ARE YOU PERCEIVING ANY OF THE BENEFITS AT LEAST?
Oh. I see.
While the “international community” gathers to discuss the famine and drought in Africa, or the displacement of human beings over breakfast, sitting comfortably in air-conditioning arenas, MILLION OF US die every minute. Yet we still let those running the show in power. No solution. No hope.
Apparently we do not care.
The resources are there. The technology is there. Even the money is there (as much as an illusion as it is). ALL IS THERE.
But resources, technology, money and YOUR HUMAN ENERGY are being invested with your consent in PROFIT. In dragging this planet deeper into un-balance, in polluting, corrupting, and breaking human down.
You might think there is nothing you can do, that this is too big, you are too small or ‘they’ are too far.
YOU ARE WRONG.
Think. Act. Talk.
Rational thinking. Step away from the noise and confusion. This is your planet. We are all humans. ‘they’ are outnumbered by us.
Fuck this. This makes no sense. This is not why I am human. I am human because you are human, I am here not to sleep walk, not to give away my power, I am here to extend my hand to you and create the one thing we all have been longing for: A common-unity.
I no longer walk the path of fear of authority, since I understand this authority is so weak it needs the force it has created through wars, economical fascism, brain washing and military terrorism.
I am human, and so are you. No one has a bigger claim of your existence and your peace of mind. Know that WE are letting this happen.
Terror, it seems is something we humans can be very good at.
Fear can be introduced at any level, for any reason at any time. In grand or small scale.
Human relationships are filled with fear, and lately human games when interacting with each other seem to play on thoseweaknesses. Power and status over someone else overrides the implications of hurting the other. The other is invisible, its collateral, its replaceable and non-important. Its only purpose is to fulfill a need, a selfish egotistical fix, to make a statement that otherwise would not be heard.
Terrorist attacks is not just a label assigned by some intelligence department. Terror as I think we will see more and more is also a statement of what is to come, be it that we have become so disengaged with our nature that we only sort out to rage, or be it that it is the most effective tool to introduce a new state of things where loosing grip of anything is no longer accepted.
However ironic, because the less tolerance the more fear. The more fear the more terror, the more terror he less hope, less hope, well, nothing to loose….
I have moments of clear despair when I see this ability of ours to inflict pain and suffering.
Then I remember that we are, despite ourselves, still human. There are more of us who are willing to love than those who are lost in their isolation. Be it “elites” or random fed up, hopeless human beings.
I have no rational comments for the events in Oslo, yet. All I can say Is that I believe this is a symptom, a clear and distinct neon sign that masses do not want to see.
Do not buy into the media. Please. Do not let them drag you into their abyss.
Google’s terms and conditions, buried in tiny print that most users will miss, gives them the right to take control of your content.
“By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.”
The key terms here are Perpetual, Royalty-Free - and most disturbingly - Adapt and Modify.
This means that if you’ve taken pictures of a sunset, or fireworks, or your children playing with a toy - or anything - Google has the right to grab those images, edit them, publishing them, and re-sell them.
If you think the answer is simply that you won’t put any pictures on your G+ page, think again. Google REQUIRES you to link your Picasa account to your G+ account, and therefore requires you to license your Picasa to them under their Royalty-Free contract.
